John "Jack" Thornton

John “Jack” Thornton, age 68, of Middleboro, passed away surrounded by his family after a short illness on November 2, 2024, at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center.

He was the beloved husband of Patricia (Mazzoleni) Thornton.

Born in Boston, MA, Jack was the son of the late John and Irene (Sullivan) Thornton. Jack was born in Boston at Saint Elizabeth Medical Center and raised in S. Weymouth. He graduated from S. Weymouth High School in 1973. Before retiring in 2010, Jack was employed with Verizon for 35 years as a Central Office Technician.

Through the years Jack was an avid outdoorsman, hiker and camper who made regular trips to Baxter State Park in Maine with his lifelong friends. He was a golfer, skier, guitar player, painter, chef, baker, and woodcarver. He was extremely well-read and knowledgeable about a wide range of topics. He traveled extensively, with trips and cruises from Europe to Alaska and across the United States. But enjoyed nothing more than being by the firepit or preparing dinner for friends and family, being in their company and discussing a whole host of subjects, most especially his beloved New England Patriots.

Besides his beloved wife Pat of over 36 years, Jack is survived by his brother; Gerard Thornton and wife Anne, William Thornton and wife Darlene, sister; Janice Thorton, sister-in laws; Marcia Scott and husband Donald, Marybeth Mazzoleni, Stephanie Cullen and husband Edward, nieces; Katie Youll, Amanda Thornton, Erin Thornton, Marissa Scott, nephews; Christopher Thornton, Nicholas Thornton and Jack Thornton. Jack was the brother of the late James Thornton and the brother-in-law of the late Kelley Thornton, and uncle of the late Kevin Thornton.

Mr. Thornton’s funeral will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024, at 9:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Holy Family Church Middleboro Avenue, East Taunton.

Interment will be held privately.

Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, November 10 th from 4-7pm in the Silva Funeral Home. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to; American Heart Association in Jack’s memory, would be deeply appreciated.
