Jose Almeida

Jose Almeida, 85, of North Dighton, passed away on April 21, 2021 at Saint Elizabeth’s Medical Center in Brighton. He was the devoted husband of Lubelia (Martins) Almeida. They were married for 62 years but have known each other for 67 years. Born in Sao Miguel, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose Almeida and Maria Amelia (Pontes) Almeida. He served in the Portuguese Army. Jose came to the United States in 1973 and worked for ten years as a carpenter for John Medeiros Construction in North Dighton, MA before starting his own business, Jose de Almeida Building Contractor in 1983. His daughter Fatima was his office manager for his building contractor business. Mr. Almeida loved his profession. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Also, he loved going to Senhor Santo Cristo Dos Milagres and the Portuguese Holy Ghost Festivals. In addition, he enjoyed gardening, whether it was vegetables, flowers or meticulously caring for his lawn, fruit trees, or grape vineyard. Jose Loved going fishing. Mr. Almeida was a faithful communicant of Saint Nicholas of Myra Church. He enjoyed serving as a collector every Sunday at the church for 42 years. Besides his devoted wife, he leaves his loving daughter, Fatima M. Moitoso, of North Dighton; a granddaughter, Amelia Fatima Moitoso, of North Dighton; a brother, Manuel Almeida, of Lisbon, Portugal; a sister Maria Almeida Silva, of Lisbon, Portugal and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Antonio M. Almeida and Mario Jorge Almeida; father in law of the late Carlos Moitoso; and brother of the late Maria Clara Almeida and Maria Lucia Almeida Silva. Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, April 28, 2021 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Saint Mary’s Square) Additional Parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home. His funeral will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 8:30 am, from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Saint Mary’s Square) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in Saint Nicholas of Myra Church, 499 Spring Street, North Dighton, MA. Interment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton, MA. Facial coverings and social distancing will be required during all services.
