Jose Barbara

Jose Barbara, husband of the late Guilhermina (Pereira) Barbara, died at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford on March 8, 2009.
He was 85.
Born on the island of Terceira, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose and Filomena (Conceicao) Barbara.
Educated in Portugal and a veteran of the Portuguese Army, he later moved to CA, and subsequently to the Taunton area in 1998.
Formerly employed by Texas Instruments in Attleboro, Mr. Barbara worked there as a machine operator, before retiring several years ago.
He was a communicant of St. Anthony Church.
An avid Benfica fan, Mr. Barbara enjoyed soccer, and was a member of the Taunton Sports Club.
He leaves a son, Roger Barbara and his wife Fatima of Taunton; 2 daughters, Osvalda Silva and her husband Jorge of Terceira, Azores and Ercilia B. Raposo of New Bedford; 2 brothers, Luis Barbara of Canada and Manuel Barbara of Methuen; 2 sisters, Gloria Sousa and Adelaide Fernandes, both of Canada; 7 grandchildren, Emily and Christine Barbara, Eric Raposo and his wife Christine, Kelly Raposo, Dino, Martin and Bruno Silva; and several nieces and nephews.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Thursday, March 12th at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
