Jose F. Simoes, husband of Maria (Silva) Simoes, died at Morton Hospital on Monday, Aug. 18th following a short illness. He was 75.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Julio F. and Cecilia P. (Jeniper) Simoes.
A self-employed fish vender, while living in the Azores, he moved to this area in 1979. He later worked for Cumberland Farms, for over 20 years, retiring many years ago.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, he enjoyed gardening in his spare time.
Besides his wife, he leaves 4 sons, Luis A., Emanuel S. and Joao S. Simoes, all of Taunton, and Jose A. Simoes of RI.; 4 daughters, Nelia Simoes of RI, and Ana Paula Simoes, Dina M. Simoes and Gerusa S. Johnson, all of Taunton; 2 sisters, Odete and Teresa Pacheco, both of Taunton; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Manuel P. Simoes, Julio P. Simoes, and Maria P. Vieira.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Thursday, Aug. 21st at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.
