Joseph Leal, age 64 of Taunton, passed away from his courageous battle with cancer on June 26, 2023 at Saint Elizabeth Hospital peacefully with so much love surrounded by his loving family by his side.

He was the beloved husband of Ann Marie (Leite) Leal.

Born in Pico, Azores he immigrated to Taunton at the age of 9. Joe was the son of the late Fernando and Maria de Lourdes Leal

Before his retirement, Mr. Leal was employed by the State of Massachusetts Department of Mental Health for 37 years and was the original owner of the Blue Moon Limousine company.

He was a member and a director of Taunton Eagles Soccer Club.

Joe treasured time with his family and friends. He had a deep passion for all things nautical and was constantly learning new trivia and history.   And enjoyed all things ocean and such as fishing and windsurfing. Cruising in his convertible listening to loud music. He was very artistic with a great attention to detail especially with his self-taught fruit carvings and plastering and home improvement projects. He was an avid Patriots fan.

Besides his beloved wife Ann Marie of over 28 years, he is survived by two brothers Fernando Leal and his companion Cristina of Taunton, Paul Leal and his companion Amanda of Taunton, two sisters; Fatima Amaral and her husband Mario of Taunton and Maria Ferreira of Raynham and her late husband Robert. He was also the son-in-law of Mary Leite and the Late Antonio Leite. The brother in law of Michael and Claudia Leite and Paul and Paulette Leite. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Leal’s funeral will be held on Saturday, July 1, 2023 at 8am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square), Taunton with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9am in Saint Anthony Church, School Street.

Interment will follow in saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, June 30th from 5 to 8pm in the Silva Funeral Home. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
