Joseph R. Mora, age 90, of New Bedford, died August 6, 2008 at St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. He was raised in Taunton, and lived for the last thirteen years in New Bedford. Before his retirement, he was employed as a Shoemaker/Machinist for the Corcoran Shoe Co. of Stoughton.
Joseph was a PFC World War II Disabled Veteran, 346 Infantry Regiment 87th Division, awarded the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the WW II Victory Medal and the Purple Heart. He was an avid fisherman, spending many wonderful days on his beloved Buzzards Bay. A true lover of nature, amateur bird watcher and amazing finder of four leaf clovers, he was a quiet, gentle and caring man who will be greatly missed.
His survivors include step-daughter Kathleen Langford, her husband Fred Gomes of Mattapoisett, step-daughter Karen Chace, her husband Raymond Chace, Jr., grandson Christopher Chace, of East Freetown, his fiancée Stephanie Raczka, of Dartmouth and faithful friends Milt and Rose Brightman of New Bedford.
There will be no calling hours. Private burial services will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia on Friday, August 28th. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Veteran's Transition House, 19 Willis St., New Bedford, MA 02740. Arrangements are by the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton.
