Joseph F. O'Brien, a cherished father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on February 1, 2026. Born in 1928 Joseph’s life was marked by his unwavering dedication to family and friends, his vibrant personality, and a genuine spirit of generosity that touched everyone around him.
Joseph proudly served in the United States Navy for eight years, After his military service, he cultivated a successful career as a master electrician, showcasing his immense skill and ability to tackle any task he undertook. His professional journey included many memorable years at New England Bell, where he earned the respect and admiration of his coworkers.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Joseph was an avid sports enthusiast. He embraced many hobbies, particularly swimming and handball, activities that allowed him to connect with others and exemplify his zest for life. Joseph forged lasting friendships on the handball courts of South Boston, where he continued to play well into his 80s, bringing joy to both himself and those who had the pleasure of competing alongside him.
Throughout his 65 years of marriage to the love of his life, Mary M. Doyle, Joseph created a home filled with warmth, laughter, and love. Together they raised a beautiful family, which includes their son Joseph O’Brien and his wife Nancy of Braintree; Mary Elloyan of Hull; Patricia Tranter and her husband James of Raynham; Francis O’Brien and his wife Debra of Quincy; and Daniel O’Brien and his wife Nannette of Easton. His legacy will live on through his 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren, with another on the way, who will forever cherish the memories of their beloved “PopPop
Joseph’s proudest accomplishment was building their cherished cape house, a dream realized through hard work and determination, and a place where Mom could put her feet up and the kids could play.
A man who always lent a helping hand, Joseph F. O'Brien will be remembered fondly for his radiant smile, his kindness, and the profound impact he made in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him. His absence will be deeply felt, but his spirit will continue to inspire all who carry his memory forward.
Joseph’s funeral with visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 8:30 am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Saint Ann Church, Raynham.
