Josephine Louise Souza

d. January 22, 2024

Westford, Formerly Dighton

Josephine L. Souza, age 100, of Westford, formerly of North Dighton, passed away on January 22, 2024, at Emerson Hospital in Concord surrounded by her loving family. She was the devoted wife of the late Frank C. Souza. Born in Taunton, Josephine was one of three daughters of the late Manual and Margaret (Rose) Souza. She grew up in North Dighton and attended Dighton Public Schools. Josephine loved plants and flowers and worked over 20 years at Crawford’s Wholesale Florists of North Dighton making beautiful terrarium plants. However, her true-life work was giving care to others. As a teenager she sacrificed her education to care for her ailing mother and continued for many decades giving her heart and home to neighbors, friends and of course her beloved family in their times of sickness or need. Josephine was the matriarch of the family and for years, every Sunday her sisters and their families all gathered at her home for food and fun. Besides spending time with her family, Josephine enjoyed sitting outside and listening to the birds, knitting, sewing, baking, doing word search, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, going out to eat, and taking big and small trips with her family. She especially enjoyed the annual family trips to the White Mountains which began when she was a young adult and continued throughout her life. Josephine is survived by her children, Donna M. Mills of Westford and Alan C. Souza of Taunton, her six grandchildren, Jason, Lisa, Heather, Jessica, Laurie, and Sam, her ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, her daughter-in-law, Shirley Souza of Taunton, several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Josephine is predeceased by her son, Wayne C. Souza, her sisters Madeline Medeiros and Francis Fish, and her grandson David Richmond. Josephine’s funeral with visitation will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024, at 8:30AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM in Saint Nicholas of Myra Church, Spring St., North Dighton. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to the ALS Association or the American Cancer Society in Josephine’s memory would be deeply appreciated.
