Laura (Soares) Camara, 90, of Taunton passed away at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Joaquim “Jack” Camara Sr., they were married for 67 years.
Laura was born in Taunton, MA, to the late Eugene and Laura (Cunha) Soares.
Laura worked and retired from Paul A. Dever State School. Her greatest joy was caring for her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed cooking and having easter egg hunts for her grandchildren in the backyard. She was her happiest when she could feed them or just have them over for a visit. Laura would love to go to whatever event they were involved in, whether it be a play, school event, or a dance recital. She would be there with flowers and the biggest smile supporting whatever they were doing, then it would be off to Friendly’s for a celebration with food and ice cream. Thanksgiving and Christmas were always special times for Laura. She enjoyed hosting everyone at the family home, which was decorated inside and outside, and of course her turkey, stuffing, pies for all, and olives for the grandchildren.
Mrs. Camara was a communicant of St. Anthony’s Church in Taunton, a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, and proud recipient of the Marian Medal.
Mrs. Camara leaves her four sons, Paul Camara, Peter (Laurinda) Camara of Taunton, Patrick and Joaquim Jr (Bernadette) of Norton; two daughters Pauline (Joseph) Pimentel and Priscilla (Rodrigo) Pereira both of Taunton; seven grandchildren Cassaundra Camara and Alyssa (Manuel) Pires of Taunton, Matthew (Caitlin) Camara of New York, Patricia (Stephen) DeSimone of Attleboro, Melissa (Christopher) Macdonald of Mansfield, Christopher (Lauren) Pimentel of New Bedford and Samantha Pereira and her fiance Kristopher Lawrence of New Bedford; a great granddaughter Kendyl. She is survived by her sister, Theresa Witschey; Godchild Elizabeth and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Jean Caron and brother-in-law Henry Caron and brother-in-law Robert Witschey.
Mrs. Camara’s funeral will be held on Thursday, November 10, 2022 at 8:30 am, from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in Saint Anthony Church, 126 School Street, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, November 9th from 4 to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home, Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home
