LAKEVILLE - Lawrence H. Pittsley, Sr., husband of the late Leora M. (Haskins) Pittsley, died at his Lakeville home on Aug. 31, 2011.
He was 88.
Born in Berkley, he was the son of the late Elmer and Doris (Haskell) Pittsley.
He attended schools in Berkley, before moving to Lakeville as a child.
For several years, Mr. Pittsley harvested wood for the former Sheldon Phinney Company.
Later, he co-owned/operated the Pittsley Brothers Sawmill.
He was a member of the Lakeville United Church of Christ and the Bay State Draft Pony Association, as well as a call fire fighter for Lakeville for 34 years.
He enjoyed raising ponies and cows, square dancing, and country music.
He leaves a son, Lawrence H. Pittsley, Jr. of New Bedford; two daughters, Wanda L. Pittsley of Lakeville and Amanda DeMoura of Taunton; a brother, Floyd Pittsley of Lakeville; two sisters, Lily Medeiros of Raynham and Vera Frates of Lakeville; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren and several nieces/nephews.
He was also the father of the late Glenn H. Pittsley and the brother of the late Walter Pittsley, Elmer Pittsley and Hildreth Westgate.
Graveside Services will be held at the Assonet Burying Ground on Sunday, Sept. 4th at 11 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
