NORTH DIGHTON - Lena M. (Talbot) Bleau, 105, passed away in her North Dighton home on Dec. 29, 2009.
Born in Taunton on May 5, 1904, she was the daughter of the late Hormedas and Mary Elizabeth (Wilbur) Talbot.
Lena was one of seven children: Alfred Talbot, Florence Vieira, Mildred Rodier, Elsie Torres, and Howard Talbot, (all deceased), and Eva Cavanagh of Taunton.
She attended parochial schools in Taunton and later worked at Mt. Hope Finishing Co. in Dighton.
Married on Aug. 1, 1927, Lena was the beloved and loving wife of the late Joseph William "Bill" Bleau for over fifty-seven years, until his passing in 1984.
She was the mother of three children: Dorothy (Bleau), wife of Francis Torres, Robert Bleau of N. Dighton, and a daughter, Irene Bleau, who died in childhood.
She was Nana to five grandchildren: Debra Fredericks, Peter Torres, Diane Torres, all of N. Dighton, James Torres of Boston, and Peter Bleau of N. Dighton; and to seven great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Bleau lived in North Dighton for the past eighty years, and was presented with the Boston Post Cane in 2004 as the oldest living resident of Dighton.
A homemaker for most of her life, Lena always placed family at the center of her life, and she devoted her life to caring for them all.
She loved to bake, knit, tat, and crochet.
Lena was blessed to have found several wonderful new friends in all the in-home caregivers that enriched her life in her final year.
Lena was a communicant of St. Joseph (now St. Nicholas of Myra) Church.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton, on Monday, Jan 4th, at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at St. Nicholas of Myra Church, N. Dighton at 11 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Patrick's Cemetery in Somerset.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Jan. 3rd from 3 to 6 p.m.
