RAYNHAM- Leonard “Lenny” Vintro, age 93, of Raynham, passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of Friday, June 7, 2024, at Life Care Center of Raynham. He was the devoted husband for over 60 years to the late Kathleen (Leonard) Vintro, who passed away on April 20, 2020.
Born in East Taunton, Lenny was the fifth of eight children born to the late Joseph Vintro, Sr. and the late Mary (Simas) Vintro. He was raised in Taunton and was a member of the graduating Class of 1948 from Taunton High School.
Shortly after high school, Lenny began working at Reed & Barton, where he was employed as a Holloware Finisher. He worked there nearly 20 years, until in 1965, he began his 24-year career as a Correctional Officer with the Massachusetts Department of Corrections. He spent the first half of his career with DOC at Norfolk Prison. Lenny spent the remainder of his employment at Bay State Correctional Institution, where he retired in 1989 with 24 years of service with the Correctional System.
A proud and patriotic man, Lenny served for over 28 years with the Army National Guard. Climbing in rank at an early age, in 1954, Lenny attended the MA Military Academy, where he was trained as an Officer. Upon the conclusion of his time in the service and with great honor and distinction, Lenny retired with the rank of Major.
Often attending church with his wife, Lenny was a parishioner of Holy Family Parish in East Taunton.
In his spare time, Lenny was an avid outdoor enthusiast, where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. A card-carrying NRA Member, he was an advocate for safe and responsible firearm safety. Lenny practiced his target shooting as a member of the Twin County Pistol League at Taunton Rifle and Pistol Club. He also liked to garden and cherished his trips to the casino in his later years. Above all, he was most happy with the time spent and memories made with his dear family and friends.
Lenny is survived by his cherished daughters: Paula Vintro and Joyce Fowler and her husband Mark; his grandchildren: Justine Fowler Souza and her husband Mario and Joshua Fowler and his wife Amanda; his great-grandchildren: Everleigh and Emersyn Fowler and his soon to be born great-grandchild: Baby Souza; his sisters-in-law: Wilma Pirozzi and Janice Vintro; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to his wife and parents, Lenny is preceding in passing by siblings: Arthur Vintro, Natalie Melones, Joseph Vintro, Jr., and Richard Vintro.
Lenny’s Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul, will be held on Wednesday , June 12, 2024, at 10am in Holy Family Parish, 372 Middleboro Ave., East Taunton. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at Holy Family Parish at 9:45am. Interment with Military Honors will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, E Britannia St., Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday , June 11, 2024, from 5pm to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square), Taunton. Additional parking is located on the North side of the funeral home.
