Leo R. Simmons, age 81 of Taunton, passed away on December 20, 2018 at Life Care Center in Raynham.
He was the beloved husband of Helen ( Lopes ) Simmons.
Leo was born in Taunton, a son of the late Claude and Emma ( Murphy ) Simmons.
Before retiring, Mr. Simmons was employed with the City of Taunton as a custodian at Taunton High School of over 10 years. He had previously worked at Paragon Gear as well as Crown Wire Co.
Mr. Simmons enjoyed the simple things in life such as his daily coffee trips to Dunkin Donuts to be with his brothers and nephews, gardening and tending to his grapevine. Leo was an animal lover of all kinds especially to his dogs JJ and Lilly. Most of all he was a loving and caring person who was devoted to his family.
Besides his beloved wife Helen of over 57 years, he is survived by his sons, Brian Simmons of Plympton, Bruce Simmons of Kingston and Matthew Simmons and fiancé Amy Boynton of East Taunton. He also leaves behind his granddaughter, Kylee E. Simmons, who he adored dearly. He was the brother of Frederick, Claude, Paul and Francis Simmons and his sister Shirley Ferreira, and was the brother of the late Robert, Edward, Russell, George and Gregory Simmons.
Mr. Simmons’s funeral will be held on Friday, December 28, 2018 at 8:45am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Jude the Apostle Church Whittenton St. in Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, December 27th from 4 to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home. (Additional parking with handicap access is located on the north side of the funeral home.)
