TAUNTON - Manuel Simas Pereira, husband of the late Maria C. (Couto) Pereira, died at the Life Care Center of Raynham on Feb. 13, 2014.
He was 96.
Born in Faial da Terra, St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Manuel and Julia Antao (Pereira) Simas.
Mr. Pereira moved to the United States in 1967 and resided in Taunton for many years.
Employed for several years by the former Frank Noone Shoe Company, he retired at the age of 62.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, Mr. Pereira enjoyed dancing.
In his younger years, he played the Viola.
Survivors include a son, Antonio C. Simas of Taunton; two daughters, Maria P. Melo and Helena P. Resendes, both of Taunton; a brother, Filomeno Simas of Faial da Terra, St. Michael, Azores; two sisters, Ema Resendes of Mississauga, Toronto, Canada and Maria da Graca Pereira of Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores; ten grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and several niece and nephews.
He was also the father of the late Maria Lourdes Soares, and the brother of the late Lourenco Simas Pereira and Antonio Simas Pereira.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Monday, Feb. 17th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Sunday, Feb. 16th from 4 to 7 p.m.
