Margaret “Peggy” Reed, age 83, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, at her daughter’s home. Peggy was the beloved daughter of the late Marion and James Gallahue Sr., and the younger sister of the late Marie, James Jr., Robert, and Francis.
She grew up in Braintree, Massachusetts, graduated from Archbishop Williams High School, and later attended the Boston School of Stenography. On November 11, 1963, she married the love of her life, the late Gerard Edward Reed Jr. Peggy began her career with the local telephone company before dedicating herself to raising her five children in Cohasset, Massachusetts, as a stay-at-home mother. Later, she and her husband owned and operated a home improvement company, Mr. Beam.
Peggy was a vibrant and active member of her community, volunteering with the Boy Scouts and the Cohasset Newcomers Club. Her “happy place” was her second home in Naples, Florida, where she cherished spending winters at the beach with friends. An avid walker and cyclist, Peggy loved being outdoors and near the ocean. She also enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and word searches, and doodling in her spare time.
Peggy is survived by her five children: Deb (and her late husband Jeff), Jerry (and his fiancée Christine), Steven (and his wife Allison), Bill (and his wife Kim), and John. She was a proud grandmother to Tyler, Michael, Noah, Daniel, Christina, Ashley, Kennedy, Sean, Taylor, Marcos, and Analiah, and recently became a great-grandmother to Addison.
Peggy’s love, warmth, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
