Maria L. (Da Silveira) Avelar

Maria L. Avelar (da Silveira) 89, of Taunton, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at the Life Care Center of Raynham, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Roque C. Avelar. They were married for 70 years.

Born in Flores, Azores, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Guilherme and Luisa A. (Mendonça) da Silveira.

She worked as an assembler for Datel Systems Inc., and Texas Instruments for many years before retirement. Maria enjoyed sewing, crocheting and cooking for her family and friends.

Besides her husband, she leaves her children, Jose O. Avelar, and his wife, Grace, of Taunton, Maria O. Sebastiao, of East Taunton, and Renato O. Avelar, and his wife, Monica, of Berkley; two brothers, Orlando Silveira, and his wife, Lucinda and Armando Silveira, and his wife, Fatima, both of Taunton; five grandchildren, Elizabeth “Liz” Aguiar, Jenny, Danny, Lindsey, and Lexi Avelar; four great grandchildren, Noah, Brody, Jayden, and Sophia Avelar; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother in law of the late Joao Sebastiao.

Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday , October 24, 2018 from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Saint Mary’s Square)

Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.

Maria’s funeral will be held on Thursday , October 25, 2018 at 8:45 am, in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Saint Mary’s Square) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, in Saint Anthony Church, 126 School Street, Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
