Maria de Lurdes Avila DeBrito, wife of the late Serafim T. DeBrito, died at Taunton Nursing Home on June 5, 2009.
She was 78.
Born in Terceira, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Jose and Maria (Inacia) Lourenco Avila.
She moved to the United States in 1966.
A resident of Taunton for the past few years, Mrs. DeBrito had formerly lived at the Bedford Village in New Bedford.
Employed by the former Frank Noone Shoe Co. for a time, she later worked for the former E.T. Wright Co. of Rockland for over 8 years, before retiring in 1984.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, Mrs. Brito enjoyed cooking, shopping and the spending time with her family.
Survivors include 2 sons; Dimas DeBrito of New York, NY, and Fernando DeBrito of E. Taunton; 3 daughters, Ana M. Silva and Camilia F. DeBrito, both of Taunton, and Ilidia M. DeBrito of Attleboro; 3 sisters, Carmel and Fatima Avila, and Alda Azevedo, all of Terceira Island; 12 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
She was also the mother of the late Carlos A. DeBrito, and the sister of the late Valdemar, Amelia and Merces Avila.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Tuesday, June 9th at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, June 8th from 5 to 8 p.m.
