TAUNTON - Maria F. "Zabelinha" (Leite) Medeiros, 96, was reunited in heaven with her late husband, Antone E. Medeiros, on March 3, 2010.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, she was the daughter of the late Francisco F. and Mary Izabel (Medeiros) Leite.
Raised and educated in the Azores, Mrs. Medeiros moved to this area with her family in 1940.
She was employed as a machine operator for the former Rennie Curtain Factory and Whittenton Garment before retiring at the age of 62.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, Mrs. Medeiros was active in area Catholic prayer groups and did volunteer work at Morton Hospital through the chaplain's office, visiting patients, for which she received a certificate of appreciation "for loyal and valuable services" in volunteering at the hospital.
She was also a recipient of the Marian Medal, which she received from Bishop Sean O'Malley.
Mrs. Medeiros also volunteered at numerous church activities, making clothing for children to wear in church processions.
Survivors include two sons, Francis Medeiros and his wife Carol of East Hampstead, NH, and Anthony E. Medeiros of Taunton; a daughter, Mary I. Leite and her husband Antonio of Taunton; four grandchildren; Ann Marie Leal, and Michael and Paul Leite, all of Taunton, and Christine Kelley of Lowell; four great grandchildren, Noah and Jacob Leite, and Willow and River Kelley; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late John, Jose, Manuel, Francisco and Antonio Leite.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Saturday, March 6th at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Friday, March 5th from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Anthony Church Building Fund, 126 School St., Taunton, MA 02780 or to the charity of one's choice.
