Maria Serafina (Sousa) Pereira, age 88, of Taunton, passed away on the morning of Monday, May 6, 2024, surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of her family at Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the loving wife to the late Manuel Travassos Pereira, who passed away on September 10, 1996.
Born in Sao Miguel, Azores she was one of six children born to the late Francisco R. Sousa and Nazareth (Rego) Sousa. She grew up in the Azores.
For many years Maria worked as an Assembler for companies in the electronic and curtain industries. She well deservedly-retired in 1994.
In her spare time she enjoyed baking, sewing, watching Portuguese soap operas and doing chores around the house. Above all, she was most happy with the time spent and memories made with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Maria is survived by her cherished children: Antonio Pereira (Mary) of Taunton, Idalina Chaves (Lidio) of Broken Arrow, OK, Jose Pereira of Broken Arrow, OK, Fatima Leandres (Joao) of Taunton, John Pereira (Eileen) of West Warwick, and Grace Leandres (Luis) of Taunton; her 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; her sister: Idalina Cabral; and also countless nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her husband and parents, Maria is preceded in passing by her siblings: Maria, Alda, Joao, and Jose.
Maria’s Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of her soul, will be held on Thursday , May 9, 2024 at 9am in St. Anthony Church, 126 School St., Taunton. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Anthony Church and park in the lot behind the church . Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, E Britannia St., Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday , May 8, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square), Taunton MA . Additional parking with handicap access is available on the north side of the funeral home.
