TAUNTON - Mario Albert Silva, husband of the late Mary (Agrella) Silva, died at Morton Hospital on Oct. 21, 2010.
Born on the Fourth of July, 1917, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Silva, he was a lifelong Taunton resident.
Mario served in the Army of the United States from 1941 through 1945 in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry Division.
A Sergeant, he served as a Communication Chief, overseeing the setting up of field telephones and radios in the European Theater during World War Two.
He worked for Pierce Hardware in Taunton for 23 years and later for the Taunton Park and Recreation until his retirement in 1987.
He was an active member and past-president of the Portuguese American Civic Club, during which time he engaged in many charitable works.
While his first love was his family and friends, the Boston Red Sox were not far behind.
He was very happy to have lived to see two World Series Championships.
If he were here today, he'd tell us all to "Think Positive."
Mario is survived by his daughter, Jean Mulligan and her husband Brian of Raynham; and his three grandchildren, Sean and Kevin Mulligan, both of Raynham, and Brent Mulligan of Brooklyn, N.Y.
He was also the brother of the late Gabriel, Balthazar and Joseph Silva.
