Mary Copeland

Mary (Baptiste) Copeland, age 93 of Taunton, passed away on July 16, 2026, at Boston Medical Center South.

She was the beloved wife of the late James A. Copeland, Jr who passed in 2014.

Born, raised and educated in Taunton, Mary was the daughter of the late Manuel and Edna (Silva) Baptiste.

Before retiring, Mrs. Copeland was employed as a bookkeeper at Bay State Crucible Company.

She treasured time spent with her family, whether camping each season at Bourne Scenic Park or in New Hampshire, or filling her kitchen with the sights and smells of holiday baking, especially her beloved desserts. She also delighted in playing games with her grandchildren and settling in to watch her favorite western television shows.

Mary is survived by her loving children, Pamela J. Copeland of Taunton, Debra C. Mahfouz and her husband Paul of Raynham, son-in-law Louie Medeiros of Taunton; sister-in-law, Antoinette (“Toni”) Baptiste of Raynham and her devoted grandchildren: Adam Medeiros, Ethan Mahfouz, Zachary Mahfouz, Hannah Mahfouz and Rachel Mahfouz and several nieces and nephews.

Mary was also the mother of the late Sharon Medeiros and sister of the late George and David Baptiste.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, July 23, 2026, at 10am in Saint Anthony Church 126 School Street, Taunton MA 02780. Relatives and friends may meet directly at church at 9:45am and park in the rear parking lot of the church.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery, 475 E Britannia St, Taunton, MA 02780.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts made to: St Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Mary’s memory, would be deeply appreciated.
