Mary Lou (Manley) Mellin, age 79 of Taunton, passed away on August 4, 2026 at Brigham and Women’s Hospital with her loving family by her side.
She was the wife of the late Frederick Mellin, Sr.
Born in Boston, MA she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Mary (Lally) Manley.
She spent the early part of her life as a registered nurse at Boston City Hospital; later retiring as a Nursing educator at Shattuck Hospital in Jamaica Plain and Mass Hospital School in Canton. Mary Lou was an avid bowler and part of many leagues in Boston and Brockton. After retirement she spent her days on the golf course or could be found at a blackjack table at one of the local casinos. She always made time for her family, especially her two grandchildren. She could be heard cheering them on from the stands during one of their many sports games, even if she didn’t know the rules. They were her world and she was their biggest supporter.
Mary Lou and her late husband Fred, loved to travel. They spent their retirement years cruising to Alaska, Hawaii, the Caribbean and many countries in Europe. When Fred was sick, Mary Lou was his primary caregiver at home.
She is survived by her son Fred Mellin, Jr. and wife Marianne of Taunton, grandchildren; Alyssa and Riley Mellin; her brothers Raymond Manley and the late Janet Manley and Donald Manley and his wife Linda.
Mary Lou’s funeral will be held on Thursday, August 13, 2026 at 10am with a funeral service at 10:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton.
Interment will follow at MA National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held on Wednesday, August 12th from 4 to 7pm at the Silva Funeral Home.
Handicap access with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
