Maryellen Barrett, 60, of Norton Massachusetts, passed away due to a long battle with health complications on February 17, 2026. Mel, as she is known by loved ones, was born on May 21, 1965. She lived a life marked by conviction and a deep love for her family and beliefs.
Born in Norwood, she was the daughter of Timothy and Ellen (Woodlock) O'Connell.
Mel was a proud mother and grandmother who devoted her best efforts to her daughters Emily Carr, Kimberly Carr and Stephanie Carr, all of whom survive her and carry her memory close. She was a devoted daughter and loving sister, family was the center of her world and she found immeasurable joy in watching her children and grandson, TJ, grow. Her moments spent with TJ were some of her happiest and most peaceful. She took great pride in the strong women her girls had become and was often boasting to friends and colleagues pridefully about their accomplishments.
Mel found great Joy in visiting Cape Cod and would often spend her free time perusing the antique stores of Chatham and Orleans, or walking the many dog friendly beaches with one of the many yellow labs she had as her companions through life.
Besides her loving parents, children and grandson TJ, Mel is survived by her sisters; Carol O'Connell and husband Mark Walsh and Cathleen O'Brien. She was the sister of the late Kevin O'Connell.
She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. Immediate family will be celebrating her life in private service and thank friends and family for their condolences.
