TAUNTON - Matilde A. (de Freitas) de Barros, wife of the late Vasco H. de Barros, died at her home on Friday, Nov. 7th at the age of 84.
Born on Madeira Island, Portugal, she was the daughter of the late Joao and Maria Afra (deSousa) Rodriques de Freitas. She moved to the area in 1969.
A communicant of St. Anthony Church, she worked as a folder for the former Rennie Curtain Factory for over 18 years, retiring many years ago.
She leaves 7 sons, Fernando, Antonio, Vasco, John, Zack, and Joseph de Barros all of Taunton, and Francisco de Barros of Pawtucket, RI; 3 daughters, Guida Freitas, M. Edviges Lourenco and Maria R. Dooley, all of Taunton; 2 brothers, Joao Rodriques deFreitas of Madeira and Jose Rodrigues deFreitas of Venezuela; 18 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was also the sister of the late Antonio Rodriques deFreitas, Alcinda Teixeira, Ester Pinto and Herminia Pestana, and grandmother of the late Jessica Barros.
Her funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway on Tuesday, Nov. 11th at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at St. Anthony Church at 9 a.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
