Mattie, a deeply loved Rottweiler, loyal protector, and the very best girl, passed away on June 11, 2026, at just five years old after a brave battle with lymphoma.

Five years could never have been enough.

Mattie wasn’t simply a pet. She was my baby, my protector, my best friend, and one of the greatest loves of my life. She was the kind of dog whose presence could fill an entire room — all 100-plus pounds of her — but underneath that big Rottweiler exterior was the sweetest, most loving soul.

She spent her life alongside her Rottie sister, Daisy. Together, they filled the home with big personalities, lots of fur, plenty of chaos, and more love than I ever could have imagined. Mattie was part of my everyday life in all of the little ways you don’t fully realize until they’re gone. Her face greeting me, her following me around, talking to her like she understood every word I said — and somehow knowing that she probably did.

She loved fiercely and had a way of making me feel protected simply because she was there. She was my shadow, my comfort, and my constant. No matter what kind of day I was having, I could come home to her and everything felt a little more okay.

In May 2026, my whole world changed when Mattie was diagnosed with lymphoma. The weeks that followed were filled with medications, appointments, worry, hope, and doing absolutely anything I could to give her more good days… but through all of it, she remained my girl.

On June 11, I had to make the impossible decision to let her go.

There are no words for the heartbreak of saying goodbye to a dog who was never “just a dog.” But there is comfort in knowing that Mattie will never have to take another pill, go to another appointment, or have another bad day. She doesn’t have to hurt anymore. She is healthy, whole, and free.

I like to imagine that Uncle Matt was there waiting for her when she arrived, probably with plenty of treats in hand, ready to take care of her until I can again.

Mattie leaves behind her beloved sister Daisy and a mom whose life will forever be different because she was in it.

If love alone could have saved her, she would have lived forever.

Five years was far too short, but I would choose those five years with her over and over again, even knowing how much losing her would hurt. She gave me a lifetime of love in the time we were given.

Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for protecting me, comforting me, making me laugh, and letting me be your person. Thank you for being my baby.

Until we find each other again, my sweet Mattie.
