Nelson Torres, Jr.

Nelson Torres, Sr., age 84 of Taunton, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2026 at Rhode Island Hospital surrounded by his loving family. 

He was the beloved husband of Milagros (Montijo) Torres. 

Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Carmelo and Maria (Rojas) Torres.

Nelson was the owner of his own barber shop while living in Puerto Rico, then proudly worked as a custodian prior to his retirement. 

He found joy in simple things: Sharing in delicious meals, being surrounded by his family, and watching his favorite team, the Boston Red Sox. He will be remembered not only for his hard work, but also for his kindness, and his love and commitment he gave so freely to his family. 

He will be greatly missed, but his legacy will survive through his family and in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. 

Besides his beloved wife Milagros of over 65 years, Nelson is survived by his loving children, Lissette Amos of FL, Maria Fernandez of Somerset, Nelson Torres, Jr of Dighton, Judy Leonard of Taunton, and Annette Nardi of FL. He is the grandfather of Renee, Jose, Tiffany, Christopher, Colby, Justin, Brandon, Matthew, and Coltin, great-grandfather of Alyssa, Austin, Jessalyn, Makayla, Malaquias, Cristiana, Ava, Viviana, Olivia and Carter, and great-great-grandfather of Justice, Chance, and Elizabeth. Nelson was the brother of Ramona Torres and brother of the late Pancho, Carlos, Luis, Dominga, and Eva Torres.

 Nelson’s funeral with visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026 at 9 am with a funeral service beginning at 11am, in the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) in Taunton. Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
