Nina M. (Healey) Knox, age 70, of Raynham, former longtime resident of Taunton, passed away surrounded by the love, comfort, and care of her dear family on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 2, 2024.
Born in Taunton, Nina was one of three children and the only daughter of the late George J. and Hortense “Carol” (Cabral) Healey. She was raised and educated in Taunton, attending St. Anthony Grammar School and graduated from Taunton High School with the Class of 1971.
A hardworking woman, Nina spent many years employed as a Secretary for the City of Taunton. Beginning her career in 1989, she initially worked as Secretary for the Foreign Language and Music Departments at Taunton High School. Nina then transitioned into another Secretarial role within City Hall, where she served the residents of Taunton working in the Building Department. She well-deservedly retired after nearly 30 years with the city in 2016.
But Nina's true life's work was being a mother to her two children and then later on as a grammie. Whether she was sewing homemade Halloween costumes, cooking a healthy, usually vegetarian, dinner every night, or simply tucking the kids into bed, that was where she was truly happiest. Family meant everything to Nina and she was the consummate host having every holiday and birthday gathering imaginable over the years. New faces were always welcomed at the dinner table and no belly went hungry when Nina was cooking.
A reverent follower of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Nina was a devout Catholic. She lived and breathed her faith and many friends and family would be drawn to her in their time of need. She was a familiar face at Holy Family Parish in East Taunton, where she enjoyed socializing with fellow parishioners and attending church events.
In her spare time, Nina enjoyed gardening, not only at her home, but also as a member and past President of the Taunton Gardening Club. She also liked to paint and play bingo.
Nina is survived by her proud and cherished children: Adam Knox and his wife April Zelesnik of Boston and Trisha Hellen and her husband Patrick of Easton; her doting grandsons: Liam and Knox Hellen; her nieces and nephews: Erin Healey, Jill Dunn, Sean Healey, and Ryan Healey; her sister-in-law’s: Patricia Healy, Marilyn Healey, and Edie Beyer; and also extended family members and friends.
In addition to her parents, Nina is preceded in passing by her two brothers: the late Paul Healey and the late Barry Healey.
Nina’s Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of her soul, will be held on Monday , July 8, 2024, at 10am in Holy Family Parish, 372 Middleboro Ave., East Taunton. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at Holy Family Parish at 9:45am. Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, E Britannia St., Taunton.
