Paula Alegi

d. April 5, 2025

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paula Alegi on April 5, 2025, after a sudden decline in health. She was 77 years old. Paula was born in her beloved city of Taunton, MA. to the late Americo “Slick” and Rose (Mastromarino) Alegi. Paula also was the sister of David Alegi.

Raised in the Brickyard section of Taunton, Paula attended Walker School and was a graduate from Taunton High School class of 1965. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Bridgewater State University in 1969.

Paula enlisted in the US Army in 1974 and courageously served her nation during the Vietnam War. She served her country for 11 years as a Practical Nurse with the 2nd Mobile Army Surgical Hospital (M.A.S.H.) unit located in Fort Benning, GA. She had the opportunity to serve overseas for over 3 years and eventually obtained rank of Sergeant First Class. During her time Paula received the National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forced Expeditionary Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal(4thAward) coupled with Army Achievement Medal. She finished her military career, when she transferred from US Army Forces Command (FORSCOM) to the US Army Reserves Control Group (Reinforcement) Reserve Component Personnel & Administration Center (RCPAC) for an additional 2 years. SFC Alegi served honorably throughout her career and was discharged from service in 1985.

Following her honorable discharge, she taught elementary school in Maryland and when she returned to Taunton she continued her career as an LPN at Marion Manor in Taunton. Caring for others was Paula’s life’s work.

Paula had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. Even in the end she always found a way to smile and laugh. Paula was generous to many charities that were close to her heart.  She was a loyal and thoughtful friend. She was so brave even as she faced adversity-always seeing the bright side.  She will be remembered for all the heart she shared with family, friends and really anyone she met -either a kind word or sending just the right card or note.  She will be missed dearly.

Donations in Paula’s memory may be made to Italian Social Club of Taunton, 2 Columbus Blvd Taunton, MA 02780

A grave-side service with military honors will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025 at 11am in Saint Joseph Cemetery 475 East Britannia Street, Taunton MA.
