Ricardina de Jesus Pereira Nunes Fagundes, age 89, of Taunton, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2023 at Hope Health Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence.
Ricardina was born in Agualva, Terceira, Azores on September 30, 1933 to Francisco Nunes Vieira and Maria do Carmo Pereira. She grew up in the countryside with her five siblings: Francisco, Jose, Natalina, Mariazinha, and Albertina. The family later moved to the city of Angra do Heroismo where Ricardina met her husband, Gaspar Borba Fagundes. Though they bore no children, their house was always full. She had a small business housing students and adored being a mother-figure to them.
Ricardina and Gaspar were avid swimmers and taught many nieces, nephews, and children in the community how to swim.
After Gaspar passed in 2000 Ricardina’s life was never the same. She moved to Taunton to be near her living siblings and spent the last 15 years residing with her sister Albertina, her late brother-in-law Manuel, and their daughters Tina, Teresa, and Margaret.
She was an aunt to all, and took particular joy in her 11 nieces and nephews and 23 great-nieces and nephews. Her greatest gifts were unconditional love, strength, and support for her loved ones.
Ricardina’s funeral with visitation will be held on Monday, February 6, 2023 at 8am from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in Saint Anthony Church School Street, Taunton.
(Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the Funeral Home.)
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
