TAUNTON, MA - Rita Coughlin Davis of Raynham died at Morton Hospital in Taunton on May 23, 2013.
She was 91.
Born in Taunton, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Rosa Chartier) Coughlin.
Rita was educated at St. Mary's Grammar School, Taunton High School, and graduated from Bryant College, Rhode Island, just as World War II began.
She was employed by the Naval Top Station in Newport, RI for several years and also worked for the naval torpedo station before she returned home to Taunton to work with her father in his real estate corporation, of which she was president and manager of several pieces of real estate rental property, including a half interest in the former Roseland Ballroom, the King Phillip Grocery and Café, and the Spic and Span Bakery.
Retiring in 1980, she spent winters in Florida and was a volunteer at St. Mary's Hospital in West Palm Beach, working in the gift shop and driving the hospital's tram, transporting patients and visitors around the hospital's campus.
In later years, she was a volunteer driver for the Lakeville Council on Aging, transporting citizens to doctors' appointments and the hospital.
She was also a volunteer driver for the American Cancer Society.
Rita was a communicant of Holy Family Church in East Taunton.
She is survived by a sister, Frances Souza of Chicopee, MA, her dear brother-in-law, Edward M. Tokarz of Raynham, MA and Placida, FL and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
She was also the sister of the late Francis T. Coughlin, Marguerite F. Pacheco and Theresa R. Tokarz.
A funeral mass with cremated remains will be held at a Holy Family Church, East Taunton on Friday, July 19th at 10 a.m.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.
