Robert J. Bowen, III, age 78, of Taunton, MA, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 30, 2023 after battling a long illness. He was at home surrounded by his family.
Bob was born on October 27, 1945 in Houston, Texas. After graduating from Liberty High School in 1964. Robert J. Bowen went on to serve in the United States Navy in May of 1964. He was honorably discharged on July 12, 1968. He furthered his education by studying at Southeastern Massachusetts University (SMU) and earned his Masters of Electrical Engineering.
After graduation, Bob worked at Texas Instruments as an Electrical Engineer where he stayed until he became disabled in October of 2000.
In 1967, Robert met Lydia, and they wed on July 21, 1973. Robert adopted Lydia’s five girls and they went on to have a son, Robert M. Bowen in 1974.
During his life, he enjoyed his CB radio club, fishing on his boat, and traveling with his large family. His love of travel led him on many Cape Cod trips. Bob’s love of adventure and vacationing included long drives to Florida with a van full of people. He loved venturing up to New Hampshire to his daughter’s cabin. After his stroke, Bob was best known for reading his sci-fi books, watching his movies including Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Harry Potter.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Lydia (Cabral) Bowen; his children: Cindy (Bowen) Ellis and her husband Michael Ellis of Raynham, predeceased daughter Kim (Bowen) Soares and her husband Ricky Soares of Taunton, predeceased daughter Corinne (Bowen) Coleman, his daughter Lynne (Bowen) Sheehan and Dave Sheehan of Taunton, and his daughter Tammy (Bowen) Carey and her husband Robert Carey of Raynham and his son, Robert Bowen and his wife Nicole Bowen of Taunton; his 17 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; his sister: Doris (Bowen) Bridges and Ed Bridges of Colorado; and also many nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
Bob is predeceased by his parents Robert J. Bowen Jr. and Lougena (Sanner) Bowen and his sister Frances (Bowen) Hagan and her husband John.
Bob’s funeral will be held on Friday, January 5, 2024 at 8:30 am followed by a Funeral Service beginning at 9am in the Chapel of the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 4 from 5 to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home.
Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
