Bob Nunes was born on July 2, 1968, in Taunton, Massachusetts. Despite facing challenges with Marfan Syndrome, he enjoyed life to the fullest, spending his time fishing and riding dirt bikes with friends. These obstacles didn't stop him from pursuing a career in construction. He built his first shed from scraps and eventually founded his own business, East Coast Shed, in 1990. He successfully ran the business in Berkley, Massachusetts, until his retirement to Bowdoinham, Maine, in 2010, when he sold the company.
Bob left a lasting impression on his community. Neighbors from Berkley might remember the bear totem pole he carved for his front yard and every 4th of July, he hosted memorable fireworks displays, and some long-time residents can even recall the time his lovable but dopey golden retriever mix "Sh**head" went running around with the wild coyotes, earning a story in the newspaper.
Bob, also known as "Nunesy," was a hard worker, known for his strength, resilience, and stubbornness. His employees remember him as a tough but fair boss who could always lighten the mood with a funny joke or story. Friends and family describe him as loyal and generous, always ready to lend a hand, whether by paying for groceries for an elderly woman or mowing a neighbor's lawn.
After moving to Maine, Bob embraced the winter months by snowmobiling through the woods and forests. He also had a passion for flying, though his condition prevented him from obtaining a pilot's license. Instead, he found joy in flying drones, though he laughingly admitted to losing a few over the years.
One passion that remained strong throughout his life was carpentry. A Master Carpenter, Bob never stopped working on projects, even as his health declined. From sheds and tables to dog houses, chicken coops, and even his own homes, his craftsmanship was evident in everything he built. He even came out of retirement and restarted his shed building business with Mid Coast Shed from 2014-2020 for awhile.
Bob's legacy as a skilled craftsman, successful businessman, loyal friend, and loving patriarch lives on through his family: his daughter, Lori Nunes; his grandsons Isaac and Tristan; his sister, Missy Dykeman; nieces and nephews; his wife Jane and her 2 sons Joseph and Daniel; many aunts/uncles and cousins; and his beloved dogs, Emily and Fawn.
Memorial Visiting Hours will be held on Friday , October 18, 2024, from 5 pm to 6:30 pm followed by a Funeral Service at 6:30pm in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) in Taunton.
Burial will be private.
