Robert W. Rose, Sr.

d. February 8, 2023

Robert W. Rose Sr. passed away at home surrounded by family on February 8, 2023. He was 94.

He is survived by the love of his life, Estelle (Torres) Rose. Their love story was told time and time again, and they remained devoted to each other until his last breath.

His brother Clinton was married to her sister Adele, and Bob was driving them to a football game at Dighton High. Her mother gave Estelle permission to go but first she had to bring in the laundry. Legend goes, she was in such a rush to do that, that she flew down the stairs, laundry basket in hand, and knocked him over, effectively sweeping him off his feet. The rest is history as they married when she graduated high school and went on to build a beautiful life together.

He was predeceased by his parents Manuel and Martha (Daley) Rose and his siblings Evelyn Bois, Dorothy Borges, M. M. Jeannette Jacques, Clinton Rose, Lester Rose, and Henry Rose.

Bob lived a full life, most of it within one square mile. Bob was a proud, lifelong resident of Rehoboth, MA. He attended the historic one room schoolhouse, Hornbine School and High School in Swansea before proudly serving his country with the Army in Korea. He was employed at Lindberg and Reis’ Dairy as a salesman before becoming a custodian at D-R High school, eventually retiring as the head custodian.

While he enjoyed working at the school, he was always a farmer at heart. He loved working outdoors in his gardens and with his many animals, from sheep to pigs to the occasional turkey or goat. It wouldn’t be rare to see a baby lamb or a box of kittens being hand fed on the kitchen floor.

Bob was happiest when with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Since his oldest daughter, Carol, was born there was never a time there weren’t kids running around his house.

He took care of not only his own children, but most of his grandchildren and some of his great grandchildren as well. He relished holding new babies and spoiling all the grand and great grand babies he could get his hands on.

In his spare time, he enjoyed quahogging and clamming(for his family despite his severe shellfish allergy to clams), the Patriots, and spending summers at the family beach house on West Island (which he built with his bare hands).

His steadfast dedication to those he cared for was a light that shined on this world and he will be missed.

Besides his beloved wife Estelle of over 73 years, he is survived by his loving children, Carol Stevens of North Dighton, Susan Silvia of Dighton, Robert Rose, Jr. of Rehoboth, and Timothy Rose of Rehoboth plus significant others Ed Berthiaume, Paul Silvia, Leslie Rose, and Tina Bragga. He will be forever remembered by his grandchildren Jennifer Stevens, Tabitha Marvill, Samantha Miller, Dominic Berthiaume, Daniel Rose, Megan Rose, Sara Rose, Nathan Bragga, Victoria Buckley, Keith Rose, Kyle Rose, and Jade Silvia. He was also a devoted great-grandfather of 15 and counting, Jordan, Isiah, Alisha, Brayden, Bryce, Fallyn, Emmersyn, Amari, Rohan, Jiya, Dean, Fiona, Charlie, Lucy, and Ben.

Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral on what would have been his 95th birthday, Tuesday, February 14, 2023 at 8:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Saint Patrick Church, Somerset.

Interment with military honors will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery, Somerset.
