Roberta E. (Lima) Sanchez, age 81, a Taunton native, passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on Sunday, June 5, 2022, in Winter Park, Florida where she has resided for nearly 25 years.
Born in Taunton, MA on February 6, 1941, she was a loving daughter of the late Marion Lima and John Pina.
Roberta grew up in a Cape Verdean household and was educated in Taunton. She was married to the late Adrian Ramos Sanchez, of Mayaguez, Puerto Rico and raised five children. Her kindness, caring, and positive words for everyone she met defined her life. As a working mother, she was employed full-time as a Nursing Assistant at the former Longmeadow Nursing Home in Taunton for 15 years between 1975 to 1990.
Like her twin brother, the late Robert Lima, she loved music, enjoyed movies, a fan of New England sports teams (Patriots, Celtics and Red Sox) and was a devout Catholic throughout her entire life. She valued her religious beliefs and understood the power of prayer to lift up her family out of challenges, big and small. Her compassion for others manifested in charitable ways for underserved women and infants with hand crocheted baby items in her later years. Lastly, she had a deep connection to nature through her love of flowers and plants surrounding her at home and along her daily walks.
She was the devoted mother of Adrian Jr. and Steven Sanchez of Massachusetts, Kathleen (Nzalamba) Sanchez and Lori Sanchez of California, Gina Gibau and son-in-law, Carlos Gibau of Indiana. She was a dear sister of Richard Lima and Marilyn Lima DeShields of Winter Park with whom she resided with until her death.
She is survived by 8 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren whom she adored and will be remembered fondly for the unconditional love she bestowed on them. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins of the Lima family.
Visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Mary’s Square.)
Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
Roberta’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary Church, 114 Saint Mary’s Square, Taunton.
Interment will follow in Mayflower Cemetery, Taunton.
