Ronald R. Souza, age 80, passed away surrounded by love, comfort, and care of family on the evening of Thursday, December 26, 2024, at Life Care Center of Raynham. He was the devoted and loving husband to the late Nancy (Stuart) Souza, who passed away on December 1, 2023.
Born in Taunton, Ronald was one of six children born to the late Manuel V. and Mary (Thomas) Souza.
A proud and patriotic man, Ronald was drafted into the US Army at the height of the Vietnam War. He served for two years, with all but 9 days of his time in the Army being of Foreign Service. Ronald was honorably discharged with the rank of SP4 (T) and he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
Possessing a great work ethic, Ronald was the proprietor of Hilltop Gas Station in Raynham for many years. He also spent time employed as a custodian with the Mansfield Public School Schools.
In his spare time, Ronald had a wide variety of interests and hobbies. He was an avid boater and liked to spend days on his 38’ Ocean Yacht. Ronald loved to host family members over his house for all events including cookouts and holiday parties. He liked to go on hunting trips to Maine with his brothers and he cherished time spent with his beloved pup, Mack.
Ronald is survived by his proud and cherished children: Daniel O’Connor and his wife Kathy of Somerset, Kathy Maher and her husband Michael of Cornish, ME, and Keri O’Brien and her husband James Michael of Cornish, ME; her grandchildren: Katie Linehan, Danny O’Connor, Jr., Molly O’Connor, Mark O’Brien, Brad O’Brien; and also many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife and parents, Ronald is preceded in passing by Jimmy Souza, Richie Souza, Elizabeth Hollingsworth, Nancy Read, Elaine Souza.
Services for Ronald will be held privately.
