TAUNTON - Sebastian P. Martins, husband of Fernanda M. (Silva) Martins, died at the Highlander Nursing Home in Fall River on Nov. 2, 2011.
He was 86.
Born in St. Michael, Azores, he was the son of the late Jose and Maria Diamantina (Pacheco) Frias Martins.
Mr. Martins served in the Portuguese Army in the Infantry and the Red Cross, before moving to Brazil in 1953.
He relocated to the Taunton area in 1967, where he was employed by several area silver companies.
He subsequently worked as a buffer for Princess House, retiring in 1987.
He enjoyed gardening, yard work and raising animals.
Besides his wife, he leaves three sons, Joseph Martins of Attleboro, Armenio "Manny" Martins of Berkley, and Edward Martins of Taunton; two daughters, Fernanda "Helena" Melo, and Katia "Kathy" Stanley, both of Taunton; a brother, Urbano Martins of New Bedford; three sisters, Maria Leonora Stone, Maria Conceicao Pimental and Maria Graziela Teixeira all of Taunton; fourteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was also the brother of the late Rosa, Manuel, Christina, Jose, Joao, Carolina, Antonio and Mariano.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton on Tuesday, Nov. 8th at 8 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Family Church, East Taunton at 9 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Monday, Nov. 7th from 5 to 8 p.m.
