Silvana (Pereira) Raposo

d. July 3, 2023

Silvana da Gloria (Pereira) Raposo, age 98 of Taunton, passed away on July 3, 2023 at Morton Hospital with her loving daughter Delsira by her side.

She was the beloved wife of the late João Raposo, who passed away in 2000.

Silvana was born on São Miguel, Azores, a daughter of the late Antonio Furtado Pereira and Rosa (Umbelina) de Melo. She emigrated with her husband and two children to Brazil in 1957, and then in 1970 to Taunton, by which time she had four children. Before retiring in 1987, she had been employed with Texas Instruments as a factory worker.

Silvana was a simple lady who worked very hard for her family. She prayed the Holy Rosary with great devotion several times a day all her life. She was a communicant at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, then Annunciation of the Lord Church; in more recent years, when she could no longer attend Mass, she faithfully watched and prayed along with Mass on TV every day and received the Eucharist whenever visited by someone from the parish. Cooking and taking care of everyone else was how she showed her love, especially during the holidays. Seeing her family gave her the greatest joy. Every new baby to the family was a new blessing. She took pride and care in crocheting blankets for all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, an activity she enjoyed right up to the last weeks of her life.

Silvana is survived by her loving children: son Antonio Raposo of Lakeville; son Joseph Raposo and daughter-in-law Carolann DiPlatzi of East Taunton; daughter Delsira (Raposo) Hall and son-in-law Joseph Hall of Attleboro; and daughter-in-law Eduarda Raposo of Taunton. She is also survived by brother Fernando Melo and his wife Julieta of Toronto. She was the grandmother of 10: Kelly, Christopher, Julie, Michelle, Matthew, Michael, Christine, Jacob, Noah, and Leah; and great-grandmother of 11: Alexandria, Christopher Jr., Camren, Skyla, Mia, McKinley, Jaxston, Dominic, Avery, Luke, and Caleb.

She is predeceased by son João Alberto Raposo of Taunton; brothers Manuel Pereira of São Paolo, Brazil and Antonio Melo of Toronto; and sister Maria Melo of Toronto.

Silvana’s funeral will be held on Friday, July 7, 2023 at 8:30am from the Silva Funeral Home 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square) Taunton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in Annunciation of the Lord Church 31 First Street, Taunton.

Interment will follow in Saint Joseph Cemetery.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, July 6th from 4 to 8pm in the Silva Funeral Home; prayers at 7pm. Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that Masses be offered for the repose of Silvana’s soul and for all deceased members of the Raposo family.
