TAUNTON- Theresa E. "Terri" (Soares) Witschey, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2023, at the age of 84, after living a long and wonderful life. She was the loving wife of the late Robert (Twitch) Witschey. They were happily married for 57 years and together for 60 years.
She was predeceased by her parents Eugene F. Soares, Jr., and Laura (Cunha) Soares and two sisters Laura (Soares) Camara and Jean (Soares) Caron.
She is survived by her loving children: her son Scott Witschey and partner Elizabeth Dorman of VA, her daughter Lee Witschey and partner Daniel Poirier of Taunton, and grandson Ian Witschey of VA. Also, her sister-in-law Mary Eileen (Witschey) Kieser and husband John Kieser along with several nieces and nephews.
She was born, raised, and educated in Taunton, MA. Attended National School of New York, IBM School in RI, Bristol Community College in Fall River.
In her younger years she enjoyed modeling. In 1960 she was a runner up in the Miss Taunton Pageant. Her parents would drive her to New York for modeling jobs and would visit Coney Island regularly, where her mother enjoyed riding the roller coasters.
Volunteered at Morton Hospital starting in 1979 until Steward took over – gift shop for 20 years, information desk and belonged to Woman’s Auxiliary for over 20 years. Member of Junior Woman’s Club, Girl’s Club Board, Board of Directors of the United Way of Taunton. Worked on special events, golf tournaments, city auction on cable tv with Barbara LaFrance and Paul Pagano. Taught CCD at St. Paul’s Church and Saint Mary’s Church. She was active in the Taunton community and enjoyed helping others. She always had a friendly smile for everyone she met.
She was the 1989 and 1990 United Way Gold Award winner for outstanding service to the people of our community. Received a Certificate of Appreciation for outstanding dedication to the East Taunton Jets football team in the 1970s.
Services and burial at St. Joseph Cemetery, Taunton, will be held privately.
