TAUNTON- Thomas M. “Tom” King, age 76, of Taunton, passed away peacefully, in the late evening hours of Sunday, February 18, 2024, at HopeHealth Hulitar Hospice Center in Providence, RI. He was the devoted husband of the late Paula B. (Bernardino) King, who passed away on July 31, 2017.
Born in Brockton, Tom was the only child born to the late Manuel and Flora (Rose) King. He grew up in Taunton and was a member of the Taunton High School Class of 1965. Following graduation, Tom attended and graduated from Coyne Electrical Institute, Boston, where he learned the skills needed to become a Master Electrician.
At the age of 20, Tom enlisted in the United States Navy, serving during the Vietnam War Era. Though he never set foot in Vietnam, Tom acquired nearly four years of Foreign Sea Service, upon his honorable discharge from the US Navy, Tom was awarded the National Defense Service Medal.
A hardworking man, Tom worked as a Master Electrician for more than 45 years under several companies at the same site that started as The Foxboro Company. He enjoyed working and chose not to retire until well into his 70’s.
Outside of work, Tom liked to frequent car shows, especially the ones at Gillette Stadium and Cumberland, RI. Above all, Tom took great pride being a father and grandfather. He treasured the time spent and memories made with his dear family.
Tom is survived by his cherished daughters: Amanda Espinola and her husband Troy of Tilton, NH and Melissa Szilagyi and her husband Thomas of Taunton; his grandchildren: Darren and Kendra Espinola and Jonathan and Samuel Szilagyi; and also many friends and extended family members.
Tom’s Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul, will be held on Friday , February 23, 2024 at 9am in St. Anthony Church, 126 School St., Taunton. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Relatives and friends are asked to meet directly at St. Anthony Church and park in the lot behind the church . Interment will be held in St. Joseph Cemetery, E Britannia St., Taunton.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday , February 22, 2024 from 5pm to 7pm in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway (at Saint Mary’s Square), Taunton MA
