Valentine Pina, Sr., husband of the late Annie (Andrews) Pina, died at home on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008. He was 81.
Born in New Bedford, he was the son of the late Theodore and Amelia (Perry) Pina.
Growing up in Carver, he was educated in Carver schools, later serving in the U. S. Navy during WW II.
An operator for Union Local 4, he ran pavers and rollers for many years before retiring in 2002.
A communicant of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Carver, he was also a life member of VFW Post 7421 in Carver and the Republican Club in Fall River.
He leaves a daughter, Dorothy L. Hughes of Taunton, with whom he resided; 2 sons, Valentine Pina, Jr. and Michael L. Pina, both of Taunton; 2 step-sons, Anthony Andrews of Kingston and Ralph Andrews of Princeton, FL; 4 sisters, Pauline Miranda, Patricia Smith and Mary Ann Veiga, all of Plymouth and Irene Randolph of Atlanta, GA; 4 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was also father of the late Ricardo J. Pina and stepfather of the late Alfred Andrews, Jr. and Robert Andrews, Sr.
A memorial mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Carver on Saturday, Jan. 3rd at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
