Maria Ilda DaCosta (Lourenço) 93, of New Bedford, passed away on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at her daughter’s home with her family by her side. She was the wife of the late Manuel L. DaCosta.
Born in Altares, Terceira, Azores, she was the daughter of the late João C. and Maria da Conceição (Gomes) Lourenço.
She worked as a machine operator at Texas Instruments for many years before retiring.
Maria was a poet, a good singer, and devoted to her Catholic faith. Most of all she loved her family dearly.
Mrs. DaCosta leaves her children, Margarida DeSousa, and her husband, Jose, of New Bedford, Ana Bettencourt, and her husband, Jorge, of Taunton, Ilda Costa, of East Providence, RI, Manuela DaCosta, and her husband, Antonio Nogueira, of New Bedford, Sheila Sousa, and her husband Amandio, of New Bedford, Manuel DaCosta, of Bradenton, FL, and Lourenço “Larry” DaCosta, of New Bedford; thirteen grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by several siblings.
Maria’s funeral with visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 21, 2021 from 8:30am to 10:00 am, in the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Taunton (at Saint Mary’s Square) followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am, in Saint Anthony Church, 126 School Street, Taunton.
Additional parking with handicap access is located on the North side of the funeral home.
Interment will be in Saint Joseph Cemetery, Taunton.
Facial coverings and social distancing will be required during services.
